It was raining the day we went to Kobe but I had to see the Hyogo Daibutsu at Nofukuji Temple. We did not explore the temple because of the rain but here is a photo of me standing in the rain with my umbrella in front of the Daibutsu. We drove to the temple but its only a 10 minute walk from the JR Hyogo Station.
The Hyoho Daibutsu, considered one of the Three Great Buddhas of Japan along with the one in Nara which I will write about soon, and the one in Kamakura which I visited and you can read about here.
The statue is about 18m tall, was built in 1891 and reconstructed in 1991. Nofukuji Temple was established in 805 by Saicho. I couldn't find much more information about the statue or the temple than this.
